The Peony Patch

Peony season at the farmlet always seems to arrive in a rush, but this year, it was even quicker than usual! Thanks to a warm late winter, everything kicked off much earlier, with the first Corals blooming in mid-October. By early November, the rest of the patch followed, and just like that, we were done by November 15—weeks ahead of the usual early December finish.

Spring in the ranges was wild, as always, and November felt like a whirlwind. After months of patient weeding and tending, the season arrived in full force, overlapping with the usual chaos of kids’ activities and events. It’s a blink-and-you-miss-it kind of month, and before I knew it, the last peony had been picked.

This season, I finally managed to fill in all the gaps in the patch, though a few annoying rabbits have left me with some replanting to do. We built a fence around the patch to stop this from happening so from next year rabbits won’t be an issue. Next year, I’ll be adding you guessed it more Corals—I just can’t get enough of them!

And now, just like that, it’s back to waiting for another year…
